Stories About My Brothers: Columbia B-Sides
Stories About My Brothers: Columbia B-Sides presents works created alongside and throughout the development of the original exhibition, tracing the evolution of an idea that began in 2022 and moved through multiple phases of exploration. Across these stages, the work shifted in form and approach while continuing to grapple with the same central sentiments surrounding Black masculinity, memory, and belonging.
Rather than existing outside the exhibition, B-Sides makes the process behind it visible, highlighting that the formation of identity, like the creation of the work itself, unfolds through accumulation, experimentation, and change. These paintings function as alternate recordings, moments shaped by experimentation, revision, and emotional immediacy. B-Sides reveals how those ideas were tested, reconsidered, and reimagined over time.
